Biochemical and Hematological Profiles of Common Carp (Cyprinus Carpio) under Sublethal Effects of Trivalent Chromium
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background: In natural waters and/or aquaculture facilities, fish are often exposed to chromium waste and demonstrate cumulative deleterious effects. To our knowledge, there are no studies concerning the effects of trivalent Cr on C. carpio hematology. This study presents hematological and some biochemical parameters of common carp, Cyprinus carpio, affected by sublethal concentration of trivalent chromium. Methods: The fish in the experimental aquaria (three replicates each) were exposed to a sublethal chromium chloride concentration of 2 mg L−1, which was prepared as stock solution and added depending on the volume of the aquaria to obtain the required concentration. After a period of 28 days, parameters such as hematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin (Hb), lymphocytes (Lym), neutrophils (Neu), total protein (TP), albumin, immunoglobulin M (IgM), glucose, red and white blood cells (RBC and WBC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were examined. Results: Chromium exposure for 28 days significantly (P<0.05) reduced the amounts of Hct, Hb, RBC, WBC, MCH, and MCHC, whereas albumin and glucose significantly (P0.05) between the Cr-exposed fish and the control. Conclusion: Hematological indices of fish, caused by chromium toxicity to C. carpio, can be secondary responses to toxicants, including exposure to low concentrations of heavy metals, which reflect the launch of stress reaction in the affected fish.

متن کاملSublethal Effects of Chromium on Some Biochemical Profiles of the Fresh Water Teleost, Cyprinus Carpio
The Common carp, Cyprinus carpio was exposed to sublethal concentrations of chromium for various exposure periods (8, 16, 24 and 32days). Serum glucose, total protein, total cholesterol, serum GOT and GPT were measured both in control and experimental fish. During various exposure periods (8, 16, 24 and 32 days), the levels of serum glucose, total cholesterol, GOT and GPT levelss were (P<0.05) ...
متن کاملCommon Carp, Cyprinus carpio
The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) belongs to the family Cyprinidae. In nature, carp live in the middle or lower reaches of a river with slow currents, or in marshes. Their habitats are usually weedy areas with a muddy bottom. Carp fry feed on zooplankton such as rotifers and copepods, but as they grow up they become benthic feeders, feeding on animals and other organic material. The cyprinids h...

Distribution ! e common carp [Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus (1758)] has been one of the oldest domesticated species of fi sh for food. Culture of carp in China dates back to at least the 5th century BC, although domestication began much later. ! e European races of carp derived from wild carp of the Danube; the earliest attempts date back to the Roman Empire and spread of Christianity in Europe, fro...
متن کاملHistological and biochemical changes in liver of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) under metal exposure
In the present study our major aim was to evaluate the up-to-date contamination status of the Topolnitsa reservoir. It is located in a region with intensive copper mining, which has been constantly contaminated with metals in the last few decades. Thus, we measured As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations in surface water samples, as well as, in liver of сommon carp in three different seasons ...
متن کاملEffect of dietary supplementation of Artemisia annua extract on some hematological and serum biochemical parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary Artemisia annua extract on the hematological and blood serum indexes of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Fish with average initial weight (90.32± 1.12) were fed diets supplemented with graded levels 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 % of extract (T1, T2, T3 and T4) for 60 days. At the end of this period, The results showed that growth rate increa...
